Description

The mission of the International Section is to promote optimal child development and care for children with disabilities both internationally and among international immigrants, refugees and adoptees, and also to support Developmental-Behavioral practitioners who work with these populations.

The International Section's goals are to provide a forum for sharing information about DBP work being done in low-resource countries, to support continuing education opportunities on international DBP topics, to identify opportunities for international service and research, collaboration and training among SDBP members, and to promote a global perspective within the SDBP community.

Current Projects
  1. SHORT-TERM SDBP-DBP CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The International Section and Dr. Robert Needlman, Division Director of MetroHealth Center for Behavioral Health continue to work on the development of a Short-Term SDBP-DBP certificate program for international trainees. This program aims to provide training in DBP in a structured and standardized shorter time frame, with impact and connections with a US DBP program.

  1. CARING FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCIES. AN INTENSIVE 4-6 DAY COURSE

This is an intensive, interactive multi-day course presented by faculty from China, Geneva, Saudi Arabia, Thailand USA, UK and UAE. It is aimed at emphasizing the needs of the most vulnerable and numerous victims of catastrophic events: children, women, and families.

  1. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIVE OFFICE ROUNDS (I-COR2)
    1. This a multidisciplinary collaboration of providers who engage in monthly discussions of DBP specific cases.
      1. The current network comprises 11 sites from 9 different countries who make up 5 nodes spread globally
      2. Further goals of the I-COR2 is to expand the audience to include to SDBP members by posting cases on the SDBP website discussion board.
  • This initiative is spearheaded by Dr. Carol Weitzman.
  1. INTERNATIONAL TRAINING SITE INVENTORY
    1. The International Section is working to develop an inventory of countries and programs with formal training in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics (or similar)
      1. Comparing and contrasting training programs in terms of duration, content, and application in each country as well as with the training in the USA.
      2. We would especially like to collaborate with programs in low- and middle-income countries particularly Thailand, which has an established training program that has graduated at least 100 locally trained DBPs
