Story of the only hearing member of a family (Child of Deaf Adults -CODA). Presented at Sundance. Deaf/non-hearing cast members. Depicts struggles of a family trying to run a business in a fishing community and their teen daughter whose passion is singing. Very good, generally well accepted in the Deaf community.

Coda

Documentary exploring the role that a summer camp for children with disabilities had in fostering friendships and self-advocacy that played a significant role in the disability rights movements. It's very well done, captivating, and inspiring.

Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution

Korean drama (subtitles) about a young Korean woman with autism who becomes a lawyer. Detective stories meets law drama meets autism awareness. Entertaining in general. Good descriptions of problems experienced by people with autism.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo

Based on the book Far From the Tree, this is a documentary about families with children with various disabilities. Explores triumphs and challenges of raising children with neurodevelopmental and mental health disorders from parent and child perspective.

Far From the Tree

Tells the stories of several children's journeys through the child welfare system, told from various perspectives. Very good.

Foster

Documentary about Samuel, a young boy with cerebral palsy, created by Daniel Habib, photojournalist and father of Samuel. Explores inclusion for children with disabilities in all areas of life, including school.

Including Samuel

Part documentary, part reality show, this film follows several adults on the Autism spectrum in Australia who are searching for love. Delightful, relatable,  and seems to have genuine care for its participants. Generally, the disability community seems to accept this show as non-exploitative and representative.

Love on the Spectrum

Documentary highlighting importance of early childhood education. Very well done and fun to watch. Offers evidence-based information from experts from various fields.

No Small Matter

Film about a drummer in recovery losing his hearing and getting cochlear implants. Depicts struggle in Deaf community with cochlear implants. Critically acclaimed.

Sound of Metal

Young adult (Johnny Depp)  taking care of his younger brother with ID and his obese mother. Great movie - entertaining and educational.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape
